Auto Accident Injury Treatment

Here at Premier Alternative Health Center, a substantial number of the patients we see have been injured in automobile accidents. It is important for people who have sustained an auto accident injury to seek treatment for their injuries as soon as they can. It is also important for people who walk away from their accidents with no apparent injuries to undergo an evaluation, as there are cases where injuries related to an accident may not be immediately apparent. Here is some information about some of the most common injuries associated with automobile accidents, and how our chiropractor addresses them in our Colorado Springs office.

Whiplash

We see numerous people in our office who complain of stiffness and pain in their necks following their automobile accidents. Whiplash occurs when the neck is thrust forward and then forcefully pulled back due to the impact caused by a collision. It is important for people to understand that whiplash is a condition that is rarely apparent at the time of an accident. Generally, people don’t feel the symptoms of whiplash until twenty-four hours after their accidents. In some cases, it may take up to 48 hours before people begin to feel the symptoms associated with whiplash.

There are a number of symptoms associated with whiplash which include but are not limited to cervical neck pain, pain, and stiffness in the shoulders, headaches, numbness, dizziness, fatigue and sleep disturbances. Here in our office, our chiropractor uses spinal adjustments and spinal decompression to treat the symptoms of whiplash. Our chiropractor also includes muscle stimulation treatments as well as ultrasound therapy, heat, and cryotherapy as well as ultrasound therapy in his treatment plans.

Herniated Discs

Herniated discs are another auto accident injury commonly seen in our office. One of the things that make ignoring the symptoms of conditions like a herniated disc so dangerous is the long term consequences associated with inaction. Herniated or bulging discs can lead to the development of sciatica which can cause tingling and numbness in the lower back which travels down into the legs. Sciatica is a condition that can lay dormant for a while but is known for its flare-ups.

It is extremely important to identify and treat herniated discs as soon as possible because they do not get better on their own, and can lead to a host of other long term complications. It is important to note that herniated discs prevent the brain and the nerves in the spinal column from being able to communicate effectively. Our chiropractor uses a host of chiropractic treatment modalities to treat our patients including but not limited to: spinal manipulation, heat and cryotherapies, muscle stimulation therapy, and ultrasound therapy.
